FAQs

Your Questions Answered

Whether you're wondering about my services, how we can work together or how I can support your unique needs, here are FAQs to help you find the information you need.

1. When should I seek help?

The time to seek extra support is when:

Anxiety interferes with your normal daily activities (inc. school attendance)

Physical symptoms persist despite medics giving you the all clearance

Behaviours worsen or don't improve with home strategies

Your child expresses thoughts of self-harm

Family stress becomes unmanageable and relationships are in jeopardy.

2. Can I speak to you before booking?

Yes, you can book a free 30 minute Zoom call via my Calendly link. You will be able to tell me what you’d like help with. I will offer some practical tips and discuss the programmes in a little more detail so you can make an informed choice as to if it feels a good fit for you.

3. How long is each session and how long do I need?

Each programme is 6 x 60 minute sessions. We run one session per week. Six-week programmes are beneficial for developing new skills and habits and can be an effective support for lasting change.

4. Will there be activities to do in-between sessions?

Yes, sometimes there may be a simple, short activity to try in between sessions. This is how we find the tools you like and helps us build a toolkit of useful coping techniques and strategies for you to use in the future.

5. What if my child does not want to help?

For the Parent Programme, you can still attend the programme as it is for parents who want to know how best to support their anxious child. When the time is right for your child, you will know and you will have a toolkit full of practical, straight-forward strategies to help them at your fingertips.

For young people with anxious feelings, if they're not ready to engage, we don’t force them. My advice is to have casual chats and regular check-ins with them and take it from there.

6. Does my child need to attend the Parent-Led CBT programme?

If you have booked the 1:1 programme, your child is more than welcome to join all, part or none of the calls, it’s entirely their choice and there’s no pressure to.

If you have booked the Group programme, then no, this is for parents/carers only. Of course, your child is at the heart of the programme and you will be discussing and working with them during the 6 weeks.

7. Why do you work with the Parent and not the anxious Child?

YOU are the expert in your own child. You have far more opportunities to implement these strategies in normal day to day life than I would if I worked 1:1 with your child for 1 hour per week. Plus you are there at those crucial times: the school drop off, bedtime or when they haven’t moved off the sofa all day.

This is not about waving magic wands and hoping for the best, this is guided self-help supporting you to help your child manage their anxiety and worry in calm, healthy and nurturing ways. It’s about building a practical kit of tools that you can both start using now that will last a lifetime.

Evidence shows that not only does this intervention help your child, it supports parents and it can have a positive ‘ripple effect’ on other children in the family too.

The good news is that you don't have to face anxiety alone. You don't have to 'battle against it' or 'just get on with it.' Understanding anxiety is the first step to moving through it - and you can do that with guidance and support. Let's talk about how I can help you or your child take the first steps towards feeling better. Your journey back to the life you deserve starts here...
